Week 1 Day 2 Time + Groove

Week 1, Day 2: Time + Groove

Day 1 confirmed you can already play changes confidently at tempo with two-hand 7ths — the problem isn’t ability, it’s layering overload: time wobbles when you add any two of {voice-leading, comp rhythm, melody} at once. Today’s job is to fix the time layer by keeping harmony dead simple while you lock one rhythm feel.

60 min

Lock metronome on 2 & 4 while comping shell ii-V-I in C; start LH-only pulse, then RH shells, then both hands together.

20 min

Pick one comp rhythm (Pads or Charleston) and keep voicings simple (shells or root position) while playing RH melody. Start at 60–80 bpm; only increase when you can do a no-stop A section.

5 min

Metronome + counting: count “1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &” out loud while clapping Charleston, then play it on one chord.
